Enter your dog's weight, pick an activity level, and (optionally) the kcal per cup from your food bag. We'll do the vet-backed RER/MER math and tell you: total daily calories, max treat calories (≤10%), and how many cups that is. Then 🚀 jump to our 3-minute Dog Personality Test to match feeding style with personality.
Scenario | Factor |
---|---|
Adult, neutered | 1.6 × RER |
Adult, intact | 1.8 × RER |
Senior / low activity | 1.2 × RER |
Working / very active | 2.0 × RER (can be higher) |
Puppy 0–4 months | 3.0 × RER |
Puppy 4–12 months | 2.0 × RER |
Weight loss | 1.0 × RER (or vet-directed) |
Weight gain / recovery | 1.2 × RER (or vet-directed) |
Reminder: These are estimates. Always check with your veterinarian, especially for medical conditions or special diets.
Next: Curious what kind of eater your pup is? 🚀 Take our 3-minute Dog Personality Test or read our guides on Dog Superfoods and Probiotics .
How many calories should my dog eat? Use RER = 70 × (weight in kg)0.75, then apply a factor (1.2–3.0) for MER based on age and activity. The calculator fills this in for you.
What percent of calories can be treats? Keep treats at or below 10% of daily calories. For weight loss plans, target 5% unless your vet advises otherwise.
Do these numbers replace veterinary advice? No—these are estimates for healthy dogs. Always consult your veterinarian for medical conditions or special diets.
